The MKS 1.5A SBEC voltage regulator fits between the receiver and the servo, like a short extension lead. It allows the receiver to be powered by a 2S LiPo or 2S LiFe battery, and reduces the voltage to the servo to a safe 5V level, ensuring reliable operation and long servo life. It is particularly attractive for telemetry enabled receivers, as the pilot will be able to see the real unregulated battery voltage on his transmitter, not the regulated voltage you would see if the UBEC was fitted between the battery and the receiver.

One SBEC is required for each servo. This has the added safety advantage that if one servo short circuits or pulls too much current, only the supply to that servo will be shut down, not the complete RC system.

Note that confusingly SBEC is short for Safe BEC in MKS speak, as this device uses a linear regulator, not a switching type. This does mean that there are no switching harmonics, and the servo supply will be free of interference.

These MKS regulators can be modified so they fit between the battery and the receiver, making them suitable for discus launched gliders. See this RCGroups thread explaining how to rewire them.
